English Arts & Crafts

William Morris helped to define the English Arts & Crafts movement’s design and aesthetic principles in the late 19th  century, drawing on his associations with art critic John Ruskin and the Pre-Raphaelite artists. His desire to reinstate the medieval guild system bled into his textile and furnishing designs and led to a celebration and re-imagining of pre-Renaissance design and practices.

Old California’s light fixtures that reproduce or draw on Morris’ English Arts & Crafts ideals feature the same Romantic reverence toward the age of chivalry.
