Craftsman Mailboxes, Mission Style Mailboxes, Arts & Crafts Mailboxes...What’s the Difference?

A Craftsman rose by any other name…

The terms Craftsman, Arts & Crafts, and Mission often cause confusion due to their overlapping nature, but they all fall under the broader Arts & Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While Arts & Crafts refers to the overarching design philosophy emphasizing handcraftsmanship and simplicity, Craftsman style usually relates to the American interpretation of this movement. Mission style started as an East Coast marketing term referencing a California church, and the name stuck. Whether you're familiar with Craftsman, Arts & Crafts, or Mission terminology, you'll find the perfect mailbox here to complement your home's historic charm and architectural integrity.

Choose from multiple finishes and accents like glass to create the perfect complement to your home's existing hardware and trim. Add a locking slot for extra security, or a magazine rack and flag for historic charm.

We've received so many compliments from our mail and package carriers about how much they like our new mailbox. We purchased the architectural bronze finish and it matches wonderfully with our door hardware and patio light. The construction is sturdy, and the lid has nice weight to it. It opens easily, and shuts gently. A smidge of water has gotten into the bottom of the mailbox after a bad rain storm, but nothing crazy and it hasn't affected our letters at all. Our mailbox is not under any protective awning or roofing which I think might help, but again, it doesn't bother us. It's large enough to handle small packages which we like. All around a fantastic purchase and we are quite pleased.

Step 1: Measure Your Space

Measure the mounting space for your mailbox to decide the ideal size.

Step 2: Style Your Mailbox

Once you’ve found your favorite design, style it to your preferences. Note existing hardware finishes on your home and either choose a complementary finish for the mailbox to blend in, or a contrasting finish to create a pop on your porch. Live near the coast? The raw copper Old Penny finish ages beautifully with your home. Don’t forget to add security or accessory features at this point.

Step 3: Install

Installation is a breeze! Whether you want to DIY or hire a handyman, instructions and mounting hardware are supplied. Don’t forget to take some ‘before’ photos so you can show off how spectacular your new home upgrade looks!

Step 4: Don’t forget the most important step…

…celebrate! Whether that means throwing a party on your porch to show off your new mailbox, clinking martini glasses with your significant other or banging out 25 burpees and running around the block (you do you!), the project isn’t done until you’ve given yourself some kudos!

The box is made of substantial heavy gauge brass and they even included a soft close edging inside. We chose architectural bronze with wispy white glass to go with our newly updated 1925 house. The mail box size is generous and holds large padded envelopes and small packages. They really did a wonderful job with this product, I can’t recommend it enough.

Care and Maintenance

Preserving the Beauty of Your Craftsman Mailbox

Maintaining your Arts & Crafts mailbox is a breeze! All you need to do is gently wipe down regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Be careful not to snag any delicate metal filigree. For tougher dirt, use a damp cloth with mild dish soap and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners, and never use ammonia.
