1912 Transitional Arts & Crafts - Coffee Table

Snow Woodworks Rafter Tail Coffee Table

Snow Woodworks in Hesperia, CA built this custom piece, and several others for the homeowner to fit in with the design and construction of their Arts and Crafts home.  When Britta from Red Rooster Vintage was completing the design elements for the interior of the home, she spoke to James and explained what they were looking for. James had the perfect piece he had recently finished - The Peart Greene and Green Rafter Tail Table.

This coffee table is constructed of quarter-sawn Sapele, a species of African Mahogany known for its beautiful, rich color and unique grain pattern.  The name rafter tail table comes from the original designer Darrell Peart who was trying to recreate an image in his head of the Gamble House rafter tails....before realizing they don't look like this at all.  The cloud-lift up into the tails seems to allow the top to float in place, giving it a weighted yet elegant feel. Looking from the bottom, one can see the "rafters" hold the top off the legs, giving it that feeling - much as the rafters of a home support the roof.

The table is made in all mortise and tenon construction with through tenons on each leg, as well as the ebony plugs throughout, keeping with the Greene and Greene aesthetic.  This table can be built in any size and has been made as a set of speaker stands as well.  This table can also be made in Cherry.

This table is finished in an environmentally friendly, hand-rubbed oil finish. The oil finish used is manufactured with no heavy metals or other pollutants and is made using only plant, earth, and mineral pigments, and is safe for pets and children.

The Peart Rafter Coffee Table is also available in Cherry and can be modified to fit your space.  Please contact us if you have any questions at 800-577-6679 or email ocsales@oldcaliforina.com.
