The Merry Monk (902-24)

Arts & Crafts Chandelier

Friar Tuck was never far from his mead, as evident in the mirthful monks’ faces that keep watch from this chandelier. Quite unlike anything else, this fixture is inspired by an original, turn-of-the-20th-century Arts & Crafts chandelier.

The history behind this particular design is murky, though it may draw upon the grotesques, gargoyles and other figures carved into misericords—benches that monks could rest against while standing for long periods in church.
